Before you choose
Sealed finishes vs living finishes.
Every finish we make falls into one of two categories. Both last decades. Both are intentional. The difference is whether the finish stays the way it looks today, or develops patina over time.
Sealed finishes
Sealed using advanced electroplating or PVD coating. They look the same in year one and year twenty. No patina, no surprises. The finish you choose is the finish you keep.
- BehaviourStable. Looks consistent for the lifetime of the piece.
- MaintenanceSoft cloth and water. That’s it.
- Best forSchemes where finish consistency matters.
Includes: Satin Brass, Antique Brass, Vintage Brass, Satin Nickel, Distressed Black Brass, Matte Black, Anthracite, Polished Brass, Polished Chrome.
Living finishes
Uncoated solid brass, designed to evolve with use and time. Develops a patina that is entirely its own. Marks where hands touch it. Deepens in colour. Settles into your home.
- BehaviourChanges. Year one looks nothing like year ten.
- MaintenanceNone required. Polish only if you want to reset the look.
- Best forHeritage interiors and anyone who wants character to develop.
Includes: Unlacquered Brass. See the patina timeline below.
Finish by finish
Each finish, in detail.
Description, care instructions, and which collections each finish is available on.
Satin Brass
Contemporary brushed finish with a sophisticated golden tone. The most versatile finish in our range, sitting comfortably in modern, transitional, and traditional schemes. Sealed using advanced electroplating, so the finish you receive is the finish you keep.
Care instructions
- Wipe with a soft, dry cloth for daily cleaning
- For deeper cleaning, use mild soap and water, then dry immediately
- Avoid abrasive pads, scouring cloths, or steel wool
- No bleach, ammonia, or acidic cleaners

Antique Brass
Pre-darkened golden finish that mimics the look of naturally aged brass without changing further over time. Gives you the heritage look from day one, sealed so it stays that way. A favourite for traditional interiors and any scheme that wants warmth without polish.
Care instructions
- Dry dust with a soft cloth as part of regular cleaning
- Spot clean with a damp cloth if needed, then dry immediately
- Avoid brass polish or metal cleaners — they will strip the darkened tone
- No abrasive pads

Vintage Brass
A deeper, warmer tone than antique brass with a more pronounced aged character. For schemes that want the richness of old brass without the unpredictability of a living finish. Sealed and stable from day one.
Care instructions
- Wipe with a soft, dry cloth
- Spot clean with a damp cloth if needed
- Avoid brass polish — it will lighten the aged tone
- No abrasive cleaners

Unlacquered Brass
Uncoated solid brass, raw and unsealed. The only finish in our range designed to visibly evolve. Over months and years, it deepens in colour, develops patina where hands touch it most often, and settles into a tone that is entirely its own. This is not a flaw, it is the finish working as intended.
Care instructions
- Wipe with a dry, soft cloth
- Let the patina develop — the whole point is to leave it alone
- Use a brass polish only if you want to reset to the original brightness
- Avoid water, polish, or chemical cleaners unless you wish to remove patina

Satin Nickel
Cool-toned brushed silver finish. Sits between the warmth of brass and the starkness of chrome. Works in contemporary and transitional schemes. Sealed for permanent consistency.
Care instructions
- Wipe with a soft, dry cloth
- Mild soap and water for stubborn marks
- Avoid abrasive pads or harsh chemicals
- No bleach-based cleaners

Distressed Black Brass
A textured, charcoal-toned finish over solid brass. Intentionally uneven with subtle brass undertones showing through the dark surface. Creates depth and character that a flat black cannot.
Care instructions
- Wipe gently with a dry soft cloth
- Treat with care — the textured surface is part of the design
- Avoid rubbing hard — you may wear the distressed surface
- No abrasive cleaners or metal polish

Matte Black
Smooth, deep black with a non-reflective finish. Modern and minimal. The finish that disappears into a scheme rather than announcing itself, which is exactly the point. Sealed using advanced electroplating for long-term durability.
Care instructions
- Wipe gently with a damp soft cloth
- Dry immediately after cleaning
- Avoid anything abrasive — it will mark the matte texture
- No bleach or alcohol-based cleaners

Anthracite

Polished Brass
Mirror-polished brass with a PVD (Physical Vapour Deposition) coating for exceptional durability. The most reflective brass finish in our range. PVD coating is harder and more scratch-resistant than traditional electroplating.
Care instructions
- Wipe with a soft cloth — fingerprints show easily on mirror finishes
- Glass cleaner works well on PVD surfaces
- Avoid abrasive cloths that could micro-scratch the mirror surface
- No acidic or ammonia-based cleaners

For unlacquered brass only
What patina actually looks like.
Unlacquered brass changes. The most useful thing we can show you is what to expect at each stage, so you can choose this finish knowing what it becomes.
Day one
Bright & golden
Arrives bright, polished, and golden. Looks similar to satin brass at first glance, but it’s raw underneath.
Months 1–6
First darkening
The shine softens. Areas you touch frequently start to show subtle darker fingerprints. The first signs of patina are uneven, and that’s normal.
Years 1–5
Settled patina
The colour deepens to a warm honey-brown. Patina becomes consistent across the piece. Tonal variation gives it character.
Years 5+
Heritage tone
The piece reads as something that has been in the home for decades. Deep, rich, lived-in. This is what we made it for.
Common questions
Things customers ask us most.
Pulled from real support conversations. If your question isn’t here, our team is happy to help.
Will my brass hardware turn green? +
No. Verdigris (the green-blue corrosion you sometimes see on copper or untreated brass) only develops in damp outdoor conditions over many years. Indoor brass, sealed or unsealed, will not turn green. Unlacquered brass darkens to a warm brown patina, not green.
Can I undo patina on unlacquered brass? +
Yes. A standard brass polish (Brasso, Wright's, or similar) will strip the patina back to the original bright brass appearance. The patina will then start developing again from that point. You can repeat this as many times as you like.
Are your finishes safe for bathrooms and kitchens? +
All sealed finishes are suitable for bathrooms and kitchens. We recommend drying hardware after exposure to standing water. Unlacquered brass will patina faster in humid environments like bathrooms — some people prefer this accelerated character.
Will my finish look identical to the photo on the website? +
Very close, but not pixel-perfect. Each piece is individually finished, so there can be subtle natural variation. This is especially true for antique brass, vintage brass, and distressed finishes where the character is part of the design. Order a sample kit to see the actual finish before committing.
What's the difference between sealed brass and PVD finishes? +
Both are permanent. Electroplated (sealed) finishes use a traditional coating process. PVD (Physical Vapour Deposition) is a newer technology that bonds at a molecular level, making it harder and more scratch-resistant. Our Polished Brass and Polished Chrome finishes use PVD.
Do you offer matching finishes across cabinet, door, and lighting? +
Yes for core finishes like Satin Brass, Antique Brass, Matte Black, and Satin Nickel — these are available across all product categories. Some specialist finishes (PVD, Distressed) are only available on select collections. Check the "Available on" section for each finish above.
What if my hardware arrives with a finish defect? +
Contact us within 14 days of delivery. We will replace the piece at no cost. Finish defects covered include: peeling, flaking, uneven coating, and colour inconsistency beyond normal variation. Natural characteristics of distressed and unlacquered finishes are not defects.
How does the 10-year warranty cover finish issues? +
Our warranty covers manufacturing defects in the finish for the full warranty period. If a sealed finish peels, flakes, or degrades under normal indoor use, we replace the piece. Normal patina on unlacquered brass and natural wear patterns are not covered as they are expected behaviour.
