The problem

The problem with standard lighting.

Off-the-shelf lighting is designed around averages. Average ceiling heights, average room sizes, average taste. Your space is not average. Here is where standard products fall short.

01

Wrong cable length

Standard drops are manufactured to fit average ceiling heights. In a period property with 3-metre ceilings or a double-height hallway, the pendant hangs too high. In a modern flat with lower ceilings, it hangs too low. Either way, the proportions are wrong.

02

Finish limitations

Generic brass finishes are designed to appeal broadly, not to match your specific palette. The warm tone of your cabinet handles, the patina on your taps, the colour of your door furniture. Standard lighting ignores these details entirely.

03

Cluster compromises

Pre-configured cluster sets assume a single ceiling rose and a symmetrical arrangement. Real spaces have off-centre junction boxes, beams, sloped ceilings, and stairwells. Standard clusters cannot adapt to any of these.

“We work to your measurements and specifications.”

Built to last, finished by hand

The right material for the right purpose.

Professional lighting demands materials that perform under heat, span structural distances, and hold a finish for years. That is why most of our fixtures are built from iron — it is stronger, lighter at scale, and takes hand-applied finishes with a depth and consistency that cast alternatives struggle to match. For pieces where weight, patina, and warmth are the priority, we use solid brass throughout.

What matters is what you see and what you touch. Every fitting is hand-finished in our workshop — not dipped in a factory. Eight finishes, each applied and inspected by hand, from satin brass and antique brass to matte black and polished chrome. The finish is built up in layers, not sprayed on. That is the difference between a fitting that looks right on day one and one that still looks right in year ten.

What we customise

Specify every detail.

Every bespoke project starts with a free design consultation.

Three glass globe pendants at staggered heights over kitchen island

01

Cable length & drop height

Every pendant is supplied with cable cut precisely to your specification. Measure your ceiling height, tell us where you want the bottom of the shade to sit, and we calculate the exact cable length required. No excess cable coiled inside the ceiling rose, no awkward adjustments after installation.

Options

Custom lengths from 200mm to 5m+, adjustable options available, multi-drop staggered heights

02

Cable type & colour

The cable is not an afterthought. We offer twisted fabric flex, smooth round flex, and braided options in a range of colours. Match the cable to your wall colour, contrast it against your ceiling, or let it disappear entirely. The cable is part of the design.

Options

Twisted fabric, smooth round, braided, 12+ colour options, custom colour matching

Five cable types with brass fittings — twisted, braided, smooth in black, ivory, gold, white
Five clear glass globe pendants in staggered cluster from brass ceiling plate

03

Multi-pendant clusters

Cluster pendants over a dining table, kitchen island, or stairwell. We configure the number of drops, the spacing, the staggered heights, and the ceiling rose to suit your specific layout. Off-centre junction boxes, beamed ceilings, sloped ceilings. We design around your constraints.

Options

2 to 12+ pendants per cluster, custom ceiling plates, staggered or uniform drops, hook and junction box compatible

04

Finishes & shades

Match the finish of your lighting to your existing door handles, taps, cabinet hardware, or curtain poles. We offer eight standard finishes and can work with you on custom patina effects. Glass shades are available in clear, smoked, amber, and opal, in a range of shapes.

Options

8 brass finishes, custom patina available, clear / smoked / amber / opal glass, multiple shade shapes

What designers and clients say

Built on referrals and repeat specifications.

“We needed five pendants over a 2.8-metre stairwell, each at a different drop height. meraki. worked out the exact cable lengths from our floor plan and every pendant hung precisely where it should. The unlacquered brass is developing a beautiful patina already.”

Laura K.

Homeowner, Cotswolds

“I specify meraki. lighting for most of my residential projects now. The ability to match the brass finish to existing ironmongery saves me hours of sourcing. The quality is consistent, the lead times are reliable, and my clients love the result.”

James T.

Interior Designer, London

“We had a cluster of three pendants made for our kitchen island. The cable lengths were calibrated to our ceiling height and the antique brass finish matches our handles perfectly. It has completely transformed the room.”

Common questions

Answers before you enquire.

About the bespoke service

What counts as bespoke vs standard adjustment?
A standard adjustment is a modification to an existing meraki. product, for example changing the cable length, swapping the finish, or switching the glass shade. Bespoke means we are building something that does not exist in our standard range, such as a custom cluster configuration, a finish not in our catalogue, or a fitting designed from scratch to your specifications. Both start with a free consultation. We will advise you on which category your project falls into during our initial conversation.
Is the consultation really free?
Yes, completely. The initial consultation, design discussion, and first specification are all complimentary. There is no obligation to proceed at any point. We believe the best projects start with an honest conversation about what is possible, practical, and proportionate. If your project is not something we can help with, we will tell you that too.
Can I order a bespoke piece online?
Bespoke pieces are not available through the online shop because every project requires a conversation about your specific requirements. The process starts with the consultation form on this page. Once we have agreed the specification and you have approved the quote, payment is taken over email and production begins. We keep the process personal because the details matter.
Do you work with architects and designers?
Extensively. A significant proportion of our bespoke lighting commissions come from interior designers and architects specifying on behalf of their clients. We are set up to work from floor plans, elevations, and lighting schedules. We can provide specification sheets, CAD-compatible drawings, and physical finish samples for client presentations. Trade accounts with preferential pricing are available on request.

Process & timing

How long does the whole process take?
From your first enquiry to delivery, the typical timeline is three to five weeks. This breaks down as follows: initial consultation and design discussion within 48 hours, detailed specification and quote within three to five working days of confirming the brief, and production in two to three weeks from design approval. Simple adjustments like a cable length change on a single pendant can be completed more quickly. We confirm the exact timeline in your quote.
Do I approve the design before production?
Absolutely. Nothing goes into production until you have reviewed and approved the full specification. We send a detailed document that includes confirmed cable lengths, finish, glass shade selection, ceiling plate dimensions, cluster layout where applicable, and an itemised quote. For complex projects, we include technical drawings showing your fitting in context. You sign off every detail before we begin.
Is express production available?
In some cases, yes. If you have a hard deadline, let us know when you submit your brief and we will advise on what is achievable. Express production is subject to current workshop capacity and may involve a surcharge depending on the complexity of the project. Simple adjustments can often be turned around faster than our standard lead times. We are always honest about what is realistic.
Can I see a physical sample first?
Yes. For projects where the finish is critical, particularly finish-matching commissions, we can provide a physical brass sample in your chosen finish before production begins. This allows you to compare it against your existing hardware in your own lighting conditions. Sample production typically takes five to seven working days. For standard finishes from our existing range, we can often send a sample swatch at no cost.

Pricing & payment

How is pricing calculated?
Every bespoke project is priced individually based on complexity, materials, finish, number of components, and production time. A simple cable length adjustment on a single pendant is at the lower end of the scale. A multi-pendant cluster with custom finish matching and a bespoke ceiling plate is towards the higher end. We provide a detailed, itemised quote with no hidden costs so you know exactly what you are paying for. There is no obligation to proceed after receiving a quote.
Do I pay a deposit?
For most bespoke projects, we require a 50% deposit on approval of the specification, with the balance due before dispatch. This is standard practice for made-to-order work and ensures we can source materials and begin production promptly. For smaller standard adjustments, full payment may be taken upfront. We accept bank transfer, credit and debit cards, and PayPal. Payment terms are always confirmed in your quote.
Is trade pricing available?
Yes. We offer preferential pricing for interior designers, architects, and trade professionals specifying on behalf of clients. Mention your trade status in the consultation form or email us directly to discuss your requirements. We also provide specification sheets and finish samples for client presentations at no additional cost. Repeat specifiers benefit from a dedicated account manager and priority production scheduling.
Can I cancel or change spec after paying?
Because bespoke pieces are made to your exact specifications, cancellation after production has started is not possible. However, minor specification changes such as a cable length adjustment or finish swap can often be accommodated if production has not yet begun on the affected component. Contact us as soon as possible if you need to make a change. We will always do our best to accommodate your request.

Delivery & installation

Do you ship bespoke lighting worldwide?
Yes. We ship bespoke lighting commissions worldwide. All pieces are carefully packaged with custom protective inserts to ensure safe transit. UK delivery is tracked and typically arrives within two to three working days of dispatch. International shipping is available to most countries and the cost is included in your quote so there are no surprises. For EU and international orders, we handle export documentation.
Do I need an electrician to install?
We strongly recommend that all lighting is installed by a qualified electrician. While our fittings arrive fully assembled and ready to install, connecting them to your mains supply should be carried out by a professional for safety and to comply with Part P of the Building Regulations. Every bespoke piece ships with detailed installation instructions that your electrician can follow.
What is the warranty on a bespoke piece?
Every bespoke piece carries a two-year manufacturing guarantee covering defects in materials, finishes, and workmanship. This is the same guarantee that applies to our standard range. Electrical components carry their own manufacturer warranties. If anything is not right with your order, contact us and we will resolve it promptly. Our guarantee does not cover natural patina development on brass elements, which is a feature of the material, not a defect.
